Our first stop after leaving the hotel is for lunch at a lovely restaurant overlooking the river.

The meal is buffet style, and there is an incredible assortment of fresh vegetables, fruits, cooked entries, and deserts! Everybody comes away fully satisfied. From left to right at the table in the foreground are: Jill Schurman, Terttu Alexander, Elaine Schurman, Lucille Elbert, and Don James.

After lunch, we drive to Ollantaytambo to view the ancient Inca fortress. The city is one of a few living Inca cities. This is because much of it is built on genuine Inca ruins and the inhabitants live their daily lives much like the Incas did centuries before. It starts to shower as we enter Ollantaytambo, but by the time we start hiking the ruins, the rain has stopped.

A view of the square in front of the entrance to the fortress of Ollantaytambo.

Two children busy with some task outside the entrance.
