Sylvia looks up at Barbara and smiles. She's thinking: Girlfriend, if you can do it, I can do it, too!

A mountain rhododendron clings to the sheer cliff.

Barbara reaches the little house near the top of the mountain and turns to take a picture through the door. See the river thousands of feet below.

Barbara waits to capture a surprise photo of Sylvia just as she get to the top and walks through the door.

A view down the trail from the door. Yes, you see no steps here because the steps are nearly vertical and hidden from the camera over the steep cliff. In retrospect, I should have taken a picture of the last 30 feet of near vertical steps at the bottom looking up. But frankly, I was too scared! I feared that if I stopped to take a picture, I'd never have the courage to climb them...so I just kept going. I only let myself look at the next step in front; at this point, I never allowed myself to look down. These were the most dangerous steps and there were no railings...and it was running rain!
